Synopsis: This study assessed how substance use and demographic variables relate to the amount of mental health, juvenile justice, and total services recommended for and received by youth in a school-based system of care. Results revealed that income, race, and the interaction of gender and youth substance use were significantly related to these system-level indicators. The need to evaluate the referral process within systems of care to ensure that at-risk youth are identified and recommended appropriate services is discussed.
