Synopsis: This presentation highlights preliminary findings from analysis of a self-administered assessment tool developed with/for Native American youth. Independent variables are resilience, perceived discrimination and hope. Dependent variables included drug and alcohol use and the youth’s emotional state. Results: Drug use was associated positively with perceived discrimination and negatively with hope and resilience. Alcohol use was associated with lower levels of hope. Higher resilience was associated with a more positive emotional state.
