Synopsis: Transitioning youth from group care to family settings whenever possible is a key “systems of care” principle. Through the voices of treatment foster parents (N= 22), results from this qualitative study can be used to guide best practices in planning and transitioning youth into less restrictive settings. Thematic analysis uncovered a three-phase transition process (getting acquainted, getting settled, and getting adjusted) and what youth and treatment foster families need at each of these phases.
