Synopsis: The implementation of systems of care for children with severe emotional disturbances and their families has been widely adopted; however, evaluations of system of care programs found less than desirable results. Major criticisms are based around a lack of family involvement. The effects of individual, family, and service system factors on family participation are discussed, from data from interviews and assessments. From these results, service providers can encourage family participation in treatment.
