Synopsis: The Children’s Mental Health Initiative national evaluation has examined the degree to which grantee communities funded in 2005 and 2006 have incorporated cultural competence into the early stages of their implementation. The national evaluation also recently completed a case study of cultural competence implementation in four communities. This paper examines how the cultural competence of grant communities, in their early stage of system development, is related to community characteristics and youth and family outcomes.
