Synopsis: This study examines the extent to which a random sample of pediatricians in funded systems of care communities are aware of and interact with the system of care program and local community mental health providers, as well as barriers that impede interaction with mental health providers. While pediatricians frequently refer children to mental health services, communication and interaction with mental health providers is lacking. Results indicate that only 10.8% of pediatricians surveyed were familiar with the local system of care program. Study results describe the extent of this phenomenon and offer insights into how this was disproportionately low, especially compared to providers in the other child sectors.
