Synopsis: A self-administered, computerized screening tool (the Juvenile Inventory for Functioning – JIFF, Hodges, 2004), is being used with first-time offending youth and their caregivers for the purpose of rapidly diverting lower-risk youth to community-based services in Detroit-Wayne County, Michigan. Diverted youth are referred to a prevention program and, as needed, to specialty services where outcomes are monitored through repeated JIFF assessments. Initial results suggest that the youths need an array of services from the system of care partners.
