Synopsis: Programs that address mental health needs in the schools are increasingly being cited as best practices for prevention/intervention. The Hamilton County Mental Health Board assessed the school-based mental health needs and services of students in 22 Districts. Results indicate that 80% of districts reported that funding stayed the same or decreased, while 100% of districts reported that studentsÕ mental health needs stayed the same or increased. Improved coordination/collaboration among schools and agencies, the implementation of model programs, and increased funding for mental health initiatives will reduce the gap between need and services resulting in improved mental health outcomes for youth.
