Synopsis: Researchers report initial outcome findings from an Ohio Department of Mental Health funded study examining the differential efficacy of urban school-based mental health interventions using eight years (1995 - 2003; N = 2,403) of behavioral rating data on youth consecutively referred to a large school-based program. Youth in the borderline and clinical ranges of psychiatric impairment evidenced moderate to large treatment effect size changes on both parent and teacher ratings of psychiatric symptomatology. Successful school-based models, with the ability to achieve high service penetration rates using routine and publicly supported funding mechanisms, are in critical demand.
