Synopsis: This session discusses a practical approach to understanding the use of strengths in family service planning in a system of care team meeting process. Building on analysis of field notes of observations of over 100 child and family mental health care team meetings (using the Team Meeting Observation methodology) and interview data with families and team members in 65 child and family teams (using the System of Care Practice Review), we will discuss seven tangible ways to support a strengths-based approach: finding talent or capability strengths; reinforcing family resiliencies; identifying possibility strengths; identifying available resources in the family, team, and community; borrowing strengths; remembering past strengths; and uncovering hidden strengths.
