Synopsis: Efforts to utilize evidence-based practices in children’s mental health systems have focused primarily on community-based approaches. Nonetheless, these systems continue to provide hospital and residential care with little guidance from the research base about making this care effective. Representatives from several states will discuss their involvement in SAMHSA grant-funded projects designed to eliminate seclusion and restraint and improve residential care. A framework for these change efforts, developed by the National Technical Assistance Center of the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors will be presented. Audience members will be encouraged to share their reflections on these issues.
