Synopsis: The Report of the President’s New Freedom Commission strongly advocated for system transformation in mental health to radically alter the current fragmented mental health service system. Both a theoretical framework for understanding family and consumer-driven systems change processes, and knowledge about implementing systems change, are necessary for transformation. This presentation will provide a model and an overview of cross-service system research on consumer and family led transformation efforts. Family and consumer leaders involved in systems change efforts will lead a discussion of these efforts and their relevance to families and youth utilizing the children’s mental health system.
