Synopsis: The Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) is used for assessment and outcomes monitoring, examining strengths and challenges for children and families. The SPANS complements the CANS and is used for assessing strengths and weaknesses of service process. Outcomes can be monitored for services and interventions proposed or implemented to address identified needs and incorporate strengths. The SPANS was used with case records to determine whether moderate to high CANS needs and strengths ratings are being addressed or utilized by services and interventions provided to a child and family.
