Synopsis: More than one-third of children with behavioral and emotional problems served by systems of care have been identified as having chronic or recurring physical illness. This study examines the service use patterns and behavioral and functional outcomes of children with chronic physical illness. The findings indicate a more intensive service utilization experienced by this group of children. The results also suggest that children with chronic illness served in systems of care improved at rates similar to other children whose behavioral and emotional problems were less severe and who did not have the added burden of chronic physical illness.
