Synopsis: The National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA), the Skokomish Tribal Nation of Washington, and the St. Regis Mohawk Nation of New York have developed a culturally based, participatory evaluation methodology to conduct research in tribal communities. To demonstrate the use of this research approach, presenters will discuss the research process and results of an 18-month study of the Mohawk and Skokomish communities to identify attitudes, policies, and community initiatives that help or hinder American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth in transitioning from adolescence to adulthood.
