Synopsis: United Advocates for Children of California operates the national Statewide Family Networks Technical Assistance Center. A current project of the TAC, the development of an inquiry-based publication, has involved collection of information from forty-two Networks, obtained through a comprehensive interview process with each Executive Director. The project examines the practices, activities, and intended outcomes of the Networks, whose missions entail transforming the mental health systems in their states. This paper will examine family organization practices as they have been understood in the past, the project's inquiry process, and preliminary results and conclusions that can be drawn from the data.
