Synopsis: The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is sponsoring the creation of a National Strategic Plan on Workforce Development in Behavioral Health. This plan is to address issues relating to workforce recruitment and retention and to the quality and relevance of workforce education and training. The Annapolis Coalition, which has been engaged by SAMHSA to coordinate the development of this plan, is seeking broad input from the field to inform the plan's development and recommendations. This session is designed as a highly interactive discussion in which participants are encouraged to share their ideas about practical and achievable strategies for improving the behavioral health workforce. Participants in this discussion are encouraged to attend the preceding symposium, Building a National Strategic Plan for Workforce Development, in which the history, objectives, and process for the plan's development will be discussed.
