Presented at the 18th Annual Research Conference

You Cannot Jump Over a Canyon in Two Small Jumps

We're sorry, handouts are not available for this presentation.

Session Number: 31 Room: Salon C & D

Presentation Type: symposium

Chair: Leonard Bickman & Manuel Riemer Discussant: David Chambers

Synopsis: Years of experience with reforming the mental health system have taught us some important lessons. Based on these lessons we have begun the development of a comprehensive approach for changing clinical practice. This approach is called CFIT-Solutions, which is based on the tenets of the Contextualized Feedback Intervention Theory (CFIT). The approach includes the CFIT-System, organizational consultation, and a research base. In this symposium, focus is on the CFIT-System, an online clinical data system that seamlessly integrates treatment progress measurement, formative feedback, and training modules. Issues related to training and measurement are discussed as well as organizational challenges associated with implementing CFIT at a behavioral health organization, OMNI Behavioral Health.

Date: Tuesday, March 8, 2005

Session Time: 10:15 AM - 11:45 AM

Synopsis: Today we are standing at the edge of a chasm that separates our desire to help children from our ability to help children. This presentation will review the current status of a comprehensive approach to reform called CFIT-Solutions. CFIT-Solutions is based on the tenets of the Contextualized Feedback Intervention Theory (CFIT). The approach includes the CFIT-System, organizational consultation, and a research base. Focus here is on the CFIT-System, an online clinical data system that seamlessly integrates treatment progress measurement, formative feedback, and training modules. We will also discuss the many challenges we have faced during the development of the CFIT-Solutions approach.

Presentation Type: element of symposium

Synopsis: The CFIT-System is designed to encourage and facilitate the appropriate use of empirically-based mental health interventions through the integration of training, treatment goal setting, measurement, and feedback. This presentation will describe the online training modules developed for clinicians as well as the treatment progress measures of the CFIT-System. In particular, the presenters will discuss the process of designing dynamic empirically-based modules that can be used for training and clinical support, the process of identifying and developing treatment progress measures, and the link between the modules and measures. Finally, we will illustrate how these two components of the CFIT-System interact with the goal setting and feedback components to form a cohesive clinical support system.

Implementing CFIT: Opportunities & Challenges

Presenting: William Reay; Morgan Kelly

All Authors for this paper: William Reay; Morgan Kelly

Presentation Type: element of symposium

Synopsis: For its ultimate success and sustainability, the CFIT-System needs to be developed in close collaboration with real world organizations. OMNI Behavioral Health has been a pioneer in the development of the CFIT-System. Implementing this system at OMNI has provided many opportunities as well as challenges. Presenters will be sharing their unique experiences in implementing CFIT in their organization.
