Synopsis: Youth consumers of mental health services offer important perspectives on the care they receive. This presentation will describe the likes and dislikes of 17 year-old mental health consumers who were also in the Missouri foster care system. Using qualitative methodology, themes emerged to classify youth experiences with mental health services and providers. Youth experiencing outpatient therapy or residential placement offer additional comments related to specialized providers, including therapists, residential case managers, and direct care workers. Results suggest that youth have clear preferences for service provision. Hence, youth perspectives can be fruitful in directing quality improvement efforts.
