Synopsis: The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) of the U. S. Department of Education has commissioned the Special Education Elementary Longitudinal Study (SEELS) to provide a national picture of the achievements of students who receive special education services. SEELS is documenting the characteristics, experiences, and outcomes of a nationally representative sample of more than 11,000 students who were ages 6 through 12 and were receiving special education services in 2000. This presentation will report on changes over time in the academic functioning and self-concept for children with emotional disturbances (ED) and individual and household factors associated with more positive outcomes.
