Synopsis: Fragmented delivery of services increases family caregivers of children with special needs' burden and dilutes outcomes. Family caregivers need a mechanism for integrating the information and resources vital to their children's care. Providers need an infrastructure for integrating their efforts across organizational, disciplinary, and time boundaries into individualized, comprehensive care plans. Enterprise-centric technology fragments child mental-health services and marginalizes family caregivers. We describe how the Caregiver Alliance Toolbox, a client-centric Internet information platform, meets the IOM and HHS standards for personal electronic health records, reduces possibilities for medical mistakes and improves quality of life.
