Synopsis: The Parents on a Mission Toolkit was created to equip caregivers with information to help them learn to navigate child-serving systems. This presentation will introduce the primary components of the Toolkit, one of which is a parent advocacy training curriculum. Parents with children with special needs, out of necessity, need to become advocates for their children and their families. The inclusion of caregivers throughout the planning, implementation, and evaluation of child-serving programs benefits all partners. This presentation will briefly describe all of the components of the Toolkit and then focus on the development, pilot, and implementation of a parent advocacy training curriculum. This presentation will offer findings from post-training evaluations as well as highlight individuals who have exemplified the goals of Caregivers as Advocates and Parents on a Mission. Training and resource materials will be shared as part of the presentation.
