Synopsis: State mental health agencies were surveyed to document strategies and mechanisms used to implement evidence-based practices. A 50-state, semi-structured telephone survey was conducted with state directors of children's mental health services. Topic areas included: financing, training/technical assistance, evaluation, and challenges/needs. Approximately half of states are implementing at least one evidence-based practice for children. State structure and leadership is a main factor in EBP uptake and states cite the need to focus on promising and emerging practices as well as assistance with fidelity monitoring and outcomes. Although states have employed unique implementation strategies, more assistance is needed.
