Synopsis: This topical discussion will focus on the NYC Healthy Students, Healthy Schools Initiative, a state funded, school-based mental health (SBMH) project providing a comprehensive range of integrated, evidence-based mental health services in seven NYC schools. The project aims to help SBMH clinics implement effective interventions at universal, selected and targeted levels of prevention. The discussion will describe the components of the project, challenges and lessons learned and present project data. Emphasis will be placed on the practical aspects of implementing evidence-based assessments and treatments in SBMH clinics. Barriers associated with this and proposed methods for overcoming them will be discussed.
