Synopsis: The demand for monitoring quality improvement is expanding. Indicators, used to track how well providers deliver care, and how individuals are progressing under care, are mandated in many public systems and managed care organizations; and the push to compare service system outcomes is growing. This presentation will highlight the efforts of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)- sponsored National Forum on Performance Measures for Behavioral Healthcare to establish a parsimonious set of common performance measures. Development work on identifying commonality in terms of service system performance measurement interests, and the role of administrative data measures and consumer surveys in monitoring quality and system improvement efforts will be discussed interactively with audience participants.
