Synopsis: In 1999 the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation was awarded a system of care (SOC) grant to develop a Children’s Behavioral Health delivery system to Eskimo and Indian children in western Alaska’s villages. Four years later, we look at the effectiveness of this service delivery model, its implementation, the barriers we’ve faced, and the current data available from the project. You’ll be introduced to the Last Frontier, and learn about challenges providers face working in an environment that averages sub-freezing temperatures, where the population is 97% Eskimo and Indian, and how we provide care to a region the size of Florida with no roads.
