Synopsis: The San Francisco High Quality Child Care Mental Health Consultation Initiative is a partnership between public agencies, mental health providers, and child care centers. The Initiative provides accessible, culturally competent mental health consultation to child care centers. Services provided include case consultation, intervention with children and families, program consultation, therapeutic play groups, referrals, parent education and support, and provider training. The evaluation examined children’s social skills and behavior problems; teachers’ perception of consultation services; parent satisfaction; and teacher-child interactions. Results indicated favorable effects, including a significant increases in social skills and decreases in problem behaviors for children in treatment.
