Synopsis: Nine communities of practice are being developed across Ontario to support the province-wide implementation of an intake screening tool, the Brief Child and Family Phone Interview (BCFPI), and an outcome assessment tool, Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS), in 110 children's mental health organizations located across nine regions. The community of practice concept has been widely used in business sectors to improve the flow of knowledge, particularly tacit knowledge. Our research to develop knowledge transfer strategies to support use of the measurement tools identified potential in the community of practice concept for supporting practice change. We describe the community of practice concept and its evolution within the children's mental health system in Ontario.
