Meet Our Keynote

Frances Dunn Butterfoss"Thank you for the wonderful 2-day coalition building course that you provided in Chicago. All that I can say is that it left me speechless. I have informed several individuals that your training is the one that they would wish they attended. There is no doubt in my mind that you not only teach and facilitate well, but take it very seriously. Thank you for your perseverance and commitment."

25 Years of SOC

Twenty-five years of systems of care paves the way for a future of positive change

In October, 1984, precisely 25 years ago, the formal Federal effort to promote the development of systems of care for children and youth with serious emotional disturbances and their families was started. Ten states received funding, through the Child and Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP) to enhance their capacity to create effective systems of care, two research and training centers were funded (here at the University of South Florida and also at Portland State University), and one technical assistance center was funded, at Georgetown University.

At the 23rd Annual Children’s Mental Health Research & Policy Conference, we will recognize and celebrate the anniversary of this important event. We are devoting an entire conference track to the review and critical analysis of the accomplishments of the past 25 years, and how the lessons learned can be applied to the challenges that lie before us. Presentations will be made by key individuals who helped to launch this significant effort, and also by new leaders who are working to build on the lessons of the past 25 years, to expand systems of care across the country, and to enhance their effectiveness. Please join us as we celebrate this anniversary and build upon the knowledge we have gained to set a course for continued excellence in children’s mental health research.
